MMS (Multimedia Messaging)

Mobile messaging evolved beyond SMS messaging with the advent of enhanced multimedia messaging (EMS). A further migration away from from standard SMS is MMS and it opens up incredible new horizons for a far more involving multimedia experience. Hand in hand with 3G it goes beyond messaging just text, static images and logos.

With MMS low resolution minimal colour logos simple text messages will gradually become a distant memory with regard to messaging within the context of keeping in touch with friends and family. Full colour images, sound attachments and even video clips add a whole new dimension to messaging on your mobile phone. There is also much more room for creativity and you really can set your phone apart from any other.

The MMS standard recommends JPEG, GIF, text, AMR voice and other formats as supported media types. Unsupported formats are handled in a controlled way.

MMS will provide support for e-mail addressing, so that messages can also be sent to e-mail. Like SMS, MMS is an open industry standard, and MMS messages can be delivered using existing networks and protocols. MMS is bearer independent - it it is not limited to GSM or W CDMA networks.
